Arthur D. Berg
(unable to attend when other awards were given)

Missions Recipient given the pin originally given to his mother, Bernice Berg, who was very active in the Local, District, and State UMW.

The United Methodist Women sent special gifts to missions in honor of these people. Each of these men and women give many hours of help to our church in various ways—but all give quietly without any expectation of praise. We thank God for their lives and their service.

       Red Bird Mission School

Red Bird Mission is experiencing a financial shortfall that may cause the closing of Red Bird Mission School. Contributions that have been given so generously in the past have declined due in part to increased need in Louisiana, Mississippi, and other areas.
The school has been serving children and their families in southeast Kentucky since 1921. Some students are the fourth generation of their family to be educated at RBMS. For many students the school provides their first experience of learning about Christ’s love for them.
Even though the entire mission has been operating at a deficit (using reserve funds) the school is the only one of the five main agencies that does not generate income. If one part has to close it will most likely be the school.
The students and members of the community are praying and working for the school to help it survive. You can help too. Consider making a 3, 5, or 10-year financial commitment to Red Bird Mission School. Currently $185 per month would eliminate the budget shortfall for one student.  Prayerfully consider a financial contribution to give the gift of faith, hope, and love and to ensure these Appalachian children receive a quality education.
For more information visit www.rbmission.org or contact David or Judy Long at church.

Parkersburg Urban Ministries, Gustke Center, & Women's Care Center

First United Methodist Church is a church in ministry to those in need, both locally and around the world. Locally FUMC works with Parkersburg Urban Ministries (PUM) to provide food and other assistance to those in need. Through PUM and our Pastor's Dicretionary Fund, we help people with utility bills, emergency transportation, and prescription needs. We also work with Habitat for Humanity, FaithLink, the Salvation Army and other local agencies to address the needs of the community.

First United Methodist Church also helps the Gustke Center, (Children's Home Society of WV), providing crisis/emergency residential care for children and adolescents age 3-17 (male or female) who are in need of support due to abuse or neglect, abandonment, youth service supervision, delinquency until a more permanent plan and/or placement can be arranged.

In addition to PUM and the Gustke Center, First United Methodist Church also supports the Women's Care Center of Parkersburg. The Women's Care Center is a Christian, pro-life ministry existing for the purpose of presenting the love and gospel of Jesus Christ in word and deed. It is staffed by volunteers, known as advocates, who have received training in crisis intervention. Within a caring, comfortable atmosphere, the Women's Care Center desires to do everything possible to assist clients with educational information and compassionate support.
